Inserted between force and velocity make life bearable...
For an object to change positions, it must achieve some speed and maintain
the speed for some period of time as shown in the equation
distance=speed * time.
For an object to achieve a certain speed
it must achieve some acceleration and maintain the acceleration for some period
of time,
speed=acceleration * time.
For an object to achieve an acceleration it must have a force applied
to it but time does not appear in the equation relating acceleration to force,
acceleration=force/mass.
By interposing acceleration and velocity between the application of force and
the resulting displacement, Nature has cleverly slowed things down enough for
objects to exist. Imagine what life would be like, if it existed at all, if
every little poke set things to flying off in new directions.
